Bandito's Diablo Room - Richmond, VA

Bandito’s Lounge hosted three emerging bands in a performance order that rumbled jaws, reconciled, gut-punched, then offered merch and geniality with warm smiles. Dayfiction started the show with raging percussion and swimming vocals that compounded with each verse. The band was immersed, but lenient on stage. The lead guitarist modeled dark sunglasses, full gain strings while remaining composed, intentional, and interested. The bassist performed with a calculated coolness and unwavering focus. Drums continued to absorb the audience with consistent movement and a standard of intensity. Lead vocals grew exponentially with passion after each track. Stand-out song and new release, “Peacemaker”, was a psychedelic indie-rock listen that rattled the Diablo Room. Dayfiction’s energy infected the audience and grew with each track. They ended their vivid performance with 2 lead guitars accentuating the same melody, delivering a united echo through the crowd that sealed their reach. Thee Windows

Queued next in the Diablo Room were Thee Windows, who refreshed the set with their initially mellow sound. Lead singer cut through the damp room with clean vocals that balanced on a tightrope of melancholy and optimism. Thee Windows’ keyboardist sprinkled charisma as he spun curious sound effects between songs and performed with a lax charm. The set included fluctuations in sound that captivated and maintained a relationship with each member of the audience. Dramatic pauses added to this dynamic, ultimately establishing a balance between tracks. A trio of vocals conveyed an urgency that paired with the pressing sounds of the tracks they were featured in. Lead guitar/vocals commanded center stage with an impressive, calm control of his voice and instrument. Easygoing drums guided the performance through the night. Bass played with a gentle fervor that indicated enjoyment. Altogether, Thee Windows performed with a particular magnetism that enchanted the room.

Tentative Decisions

The closing band, Tentative Decisions, delivered artful chaos in a way that excited the audience. Lead vocalist and guitar sported heavy vocal attitudes with a 6-stringed flair, and occasional intimacy with the 15th fret. Bass guitar was serene and amiable as they provided an unbreakable backbone to the band’s melodies. Drums were unfazed and comfortable, adding an impressive lyrical rant while maintaining tempo. Vocals evolved into a matter-of-fact, carefree presentation of nonchalant, yet powerful inflection. At one point, Tentative Decisions went from full scream to complete silence in one count, which showcased their communicative precision as a unit. The audience begged for an encore, to which the band felt unequipped, and then rocked their busiest song of the night as a pleasant surprise. The encore boasted bass leadership, percussion banter, and stretched vocals. Tentative Decisions invited the audience to join their conversation, and the audience accepted.
