“No Good For Myself” is an essential production inspired by the temperamental ache that follows a brutal self assessment. The track begins with an alt string ballad that begs Tiffany Johnson’s delicate vocals for a constructive mode of expression. Tiffany responds by playing with minor keys to convey the challenging gloom that hovers above her heart, and weighs her love down. Her vocals drown in murky lyricism about a love interest, singing a sternum-crushing one liner “Tif this is getting old,” that conveys the dual struggle of convoluted crisis. Tiffany finally breaks with “my family thinks you’re good for me/ well I’m no f*cking good for myself,” a double-edged comeback that communicates an unmatched intricacy. This creates a tension that confines her to a sinking ship where she reflects internal conflict through lyrics like “I begged you please don’t go” to “if you’re gonna walk right out/ just know that I won’t follow”. With striking instrumentals that fuse pop and rock, “No Good For Myself” is a silky scream of confession. Tiffany’s organic, vocal cries escalate alongside the plot of the track to close out with an unshakable, introspective grievance.
