Stand-out track: "stronger"

Sdoku captures attention with a nature-glittered, serene intro that grounds listeners before “left in you” blurs the line between funk and pop. This second track begins with a slapback baseline with brass instrumentals to complete the jazzy feel. 4 strings tip-toe into a vocal isolation that knows there still “some feelings left in you”, a common residual hope in broken relationships. He insists that he can “see the love” in this person’s eyes, and is certain that it's a love that “never dies”. During this revelation, mellow strings are plucked to deliver an unshakable groove. This upbeat vibe matches the playful hope that dances behind sdoku’s distinct vocals.

The third track in the album, “stronger” is just the beginning of sdoku’s genre literacy. He sings “every time that I hold her/ and she cries on my shoulder” creating a catchy sentiment that parallels the album’s theme with an impressive variability in sound. Alongside other artist, Yerom, sdoku creates a guitar-centric track with a light reggaeton-pop flair. This is one of the top tracks of the album, with a fluctuation in vocal style and soundscape that draws listeners.

Track four, “like that” is similar to “left in you”, with a committed focus on pop sounds that allow vocal runs alongside a perky beat. However, these two songs differ in a way that fosters appreciation for their unique sounds. “It’s showtime” shares similar soundscapes,  inspired by indie pop and a cheeky romance.

“I’ll fly away” has synth-pop notes that laser through the soundscape, paired with sultry vocals that grow throughout the track. A dramatic pause nearing the end of this track is revitalized by a rolling drum sequence that reintroduces the sprinkled, cyber-pop sounds that make this track stand out.

“The fisherman” begins with an almost country acoustic guitar that showcases sdoku’s outstanding variability. This song transforms acoustics into an almost indie track that explores layered vocals and melodies that attract attention. Sdoku then offers an unquestionably indie-pop track with “i wanna live it with you”. A classic guitar riff carries his humming vocals, which offer comfort throughout a track of romantic reassurance. Finally, “we only know” closes out the album with a soft pop influence that relies on a steady guitar and airy drums.

The entire album communicates the unmistakable moments in love and life through varied vocals, effective lyricism, and thoughtful production. Sdoku thrills with a lineup that’s both flexible and cohesive from the funk of “left in you”, to the beat of “stronger”, and the tenderness of the last three tracks. His new album is exciting, deliberate, and refreshing. Sdoku flirts with liminal spaces in new album “infinite moments”, as he plays with the line that categorizes genres.

Sdoku is a new artist deserving recognition. He’s just 16 years old, releasing his first album “infinite moments” this past March, and a brand new single “gambling” on June 20th. He produces music that incorporates various instruments and sounds to match his style. Inspired by Coldplay, The 1975, The Weeknd, and Cody Fry, sdoku is steadily finding his sound as a new artist.
