"Imprint" has a consistency that balances the track for any mood with synthy-strings and persistent drums. Lyrics like “I found a way/ you won't try now you’re calling” and “now I give up” bring attention to offbeat pauses that emphasize The Painting’s account of miscommunication and a failed connection. A stretched electric guitar echoes behind the vocals to create layers that complement the balmy sound. The stamina of the drums is incredible as it guides listeners through an upbeat soundscape that explores vocal fluctuations, varied instruments, and engaging melodies. Other than the main lyrics, the most notable run in “Imprint” is the bridge before the last chorus. During this build up, The Painting isolates glossy vocals in a repetition that reinforces the ending verse. This contributes to a positive tension that remains memorable, even when the song is over. Passion in The Painting’s vocals is a staple in their work, but the cracked cries in “Imprint” deliver an unshakable feeling that requires attention.
The Painting is a 6 piece band from Glasgow, Scotland that is gaining recognition. They released their first single, “Splinter” in 2022 and their first EP “A Slave to the Waves” in 2023. They released an album in 2024 called “Life is Not Linear”, with 11 songs; our favorite song on the album is “Thunderstatement”.
